lovel2ce - it's an interesting quotation, but I suspect it's a deliberate exaggeration, a satirical statement that highlights the cognitive dissonance that surrounds abortion. And that would be the only truth I see in it, that the root of abortion is hypocrisy and contempt.
I've heard pro-choice women say they would never have an abortion themselves, but feel it should be available for "other" women. And the sheer number of abortions tells us there is no doubt that pro-life women and girls are having them.
I've heard of statistics that say the vast majority of Americans do not believe abortion should be used as birth control, yet it is. And they say, "babies shouldn't have babies," so they scream loudest when the pregnant woman is an adolescent - not understanding that their demands for adolescent abortions strip these young women of freedom of choice.
When we believe truth is relative, we end up as confused as we are now. Ultimately, the problem cannot be resolved by legislating for or against abortion, because at the heart of it is a societal contempt for women and the role we play in reproduction. We are too stupid, too accident prone, too careless, too weak - so we need an out for unwanted pregnancy. And on the other side of the aisle, we are still unwilling to accept the shame of the unmarried, pregnant woman or girl.
